Beauty queens from Argentina, Puerto Rico announce marriage after meeting at pageant
Mariah Yeovil and Juan Pablo Pablos were married after they met in a beauty pageant in Puerto Rico as the couple was preparing to compete in Miss Puerto Rico 2013.
The pair was announced as husband and wife by their mothers at a recent ceremony for the children of Puerto Rico’s 2013 Miss Puerto Rico Pageant. The couple were among about 1.3 million candidates in the Miss Puerto Rico Pageant.
“I can’t tell you how happy I am that we now live in Puerto Rico, which is our family. We’re finally in the U.S. together,” said Mariah in a statement. “We can’t thank our parents enough. They worked so hard on our behalf and we cannot thank them enough.”
The pair had their first date in 2012 but married in April 2013. The news was first reported on the island of Puerto Rico.
The couple was supposed to compete in the Miss Puerto Rico 2013 beauty pageant but Pablos was unable to make the trip due to complications following cancer surgery. The couple decided to compete in the Miss USA pageant, where they finished first runner up.
The couple was set to compete again in the Miss World pageant, but they are not competing in the Miss Universe pageant, their mother, Rosario Yeovil, says.
“Mariah and Juan Pablo are not competing in the Miss World pageant because we’re not sure when that will be. Right now, they’re busy getting married,” said Rosario.
